Your data never leaves your network. Ever.
Other media servers report your viewing habits, library contents, and usage patterns to their servers. Plex knows what you watch. We don't. PixelBrite makes zero network requests to external services unless you explicitly enable them.
You don't need to create an account with us. No email address, no password, no verification. The server runs on your hardware, authenticates your users locally, and we never know you exist.
When you run the server, you control the server. No company can shut down your access. No subscription can lapse. No terms of service can change. Your media library exists independent of any third party.
PixelBrite is built on a simple principle: your media is yours. This privacy policy explains what data we collect (spoiler: almost nothing), how it's used, and your rights. Unlike most privacy policies, this one is short because we genuinely don't collect much.
PixelBrite is self-hosted software. The server runs on your hardware, and we have no access to it. Here's what exists where:
Your PixelBrite server stores data locally on your hardware:
The PixelBrite app stores data locally on your device:
We receive almost nothing. The only data we may receive is anonymized App Store analytics if you haven't opted out in iOS Settings. This is Apple's standard analytics and includes no personal information—just aggregate data like app launches and crashes.
Since we don't collect personal data, there's not much to explain here. The anonymized App Store analytics (if you haven't opted out) help us understand which features are used and identify crashes. That's it. We don't profile you, target ads, or sell data—because we don't have any.
PixelBrite integrates with several optional third-party services. Each is opt-in and can be disabled:
Your data lives on hardware you control. The PixelBrite server stores everything in a local SQLite database within your installation folder. No cloud sync, no remote backups to our servers, no external dependencies.
You have complete control over your data:
PixelBrite doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children. The app includes parental controls for restricting content on child profiles, but these are managed entirely on your local server—no data leaves your network.
Since PixelBrite doesn't collect or process personal data on our servers, most data protection regulations don't apply to us directly. Your data stays on your hardware in your jurisdiction.
We don't process personal data, so there's no data controller relationship. Any iCloud data is processed by Apple under their terms.
We don't sell personal information. We don't share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Because we don't collect personal information, there's nothing to request, delete, or opt out of.
If we update this privacy policy, we'll post the new version here with an updated date. For material changes, we'll also note it in our app release notes. Since we don't have your email (or any contact info), we can't notify you directly—that's the privacy trade-off.
