No Phone Home

Other media servers report your viewing habits, library contents, and usage patterns to their servers. Plex knows what you watch. We don't. PixelBrite makes zero network requests to external services unless you explicitly enable them.

  • No usage analytics
  • No crash reporting
  • No heartbeat pings
  • No external API calls

No Account Required

You don't need to create an account with us. No email address, no password, no verification. The server runs on your hardware, authenticates your users locally, and we never know you exist.

  • Local-only authentication
  • No email collection
  • No sign-up flow
  • No password to forget

Self-Hosted Means Self-Controlled

When you run the server, you control the server. No company can shut down your access. No subscription can lapse. No terms of service can change. Your media library exists independent of any third party.

  • No vendor lock-in
  • No subscription dependency
  • No service discontinuation risk
  • Your server, your rules

Privacy Policy

Effective: January 1, 2026
Updated: January 1, 2026

PixelBrite is built on a simple principle: your media is yours. This privacy policy explains what data we collect (spoiler: almost nothing), how it's used, and your rights. Unlike most privacy policies, this one is short because we genuinely don't collect much.

1. Information We Collect

PixelBrite is self-hosted software. The server runs on your hardware, and we have no access to it. Here's what exists where:

On Your Server (We Have No Access)

Your PixelBrite server stores data locally on your hardware:

  • Media files you add to your library
  • Metadata (titles, artwork, descriptions)
  • User accounts you create for family members
  • Watch history and playback progress
  • Server settings and preferences

On Your iOS/tvOS/macOS Device

The PixelBrite app stores data locally on your device:

  • Server connection details (address, credentials)
  • Cached thumbnails and metadata
  • Playback preferences (volume, subtitle settings)
  • Downloaded content for offline viewing

What We (PixelBrite) Actually Receive

We receive almost nothing. The only data we may receive is anonymized App Store analytics if you haven't opted out in iOS Settings. This is Apple's standard analytics and includes no personal information—just aggregate data like app launches and crashes.

2. How We Use Information

Since we don't collect personal data, there's not much to explain here. The anonymized App Store analytics (if you haven't opted out) help us understand which features are used and identify crashes. That's it. We don't profile you, target ads, or sell data—because we don't have any.

3. Third-Party Services

PixelBrite integrates with several optional third-party services. Each is opt-in and can be disabled:

4. Data Storage & Security

Your data lives on hardware you control. The PixelBrite server stores everything in a local SQLite database within your installation folder. No cloud sync, no remote backups to our servers, no external dependencies.

  • All data stored locally on your server
  • Standard HTTPS encryption for remote access
  • No server-side telemetry or monitoring
  • Backup = copy your installation folder

5. Your Rights & Controls

You have complete control over your data:

  • Access: All data is on your device/server—you already have it
  • Delete: Delete the app or server folder to remove all data
  • Portability: Export settings and data in standard formats
  • Opt-out: Disable any optional features in settings

6. Children's Privacy

PixelBrite doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children. The app includes parental controls for restricting content on child profiles, but these are managed entirely on your local server—no data leaves your network.

7. International Users (GDPR/CCPA)

Since PixelBrite doesn't collect or process personal data on our servers, most data protection regulations don't apply to us directly. Your data stays on your hardware in your jurisdiction.

GDPR (European Users)

We don't process personal data, so there's no data controller relationship. Any iCloud data is processed by Apple under their terms.

CCPA (California Users)

We don't sell personal information. We don't share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Because we don't collect personal information, there's nothing to request, delete, or opt out of.

8. Changes to This Policy

If we update this privacy policy, we'll post the new version here with an updated date. For material changes, we'll also note it in our app release notes. Since we don't have your email (or any contact info), we can't notify you directly—that's the privacy trade-off.

9. Contact Us
